Happy Family (幸福な家庭, Kōfuku na Katei) is the 16th episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率,, Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu) anime series.
Overview[]
Shinichi & Migi manage to defeat Miki, using teamwork and multiple strategies. However Gotou, a more powerful parasite, takes over the body and outclasses Shinichi. Barely escaping, Shinichi and Migi are able to find refuge in a nearby city. Meanwhile Hirokawa's group takes measures to cover up loose ends, by burning Kuramori's office and killing his family. Elsewhere, Reiko is confronted by Kusano.
Summary[]
Hirokawa's group attempts to kill Kuramori by blowing up his office. His wife and child are also murdered. Meanwhile, Migi and Shinichi face off against Miki and notice he is unfamiliar with his attacks and movements. They manage to decapitate him but Gotou assumes control, revealing the fact that Gotou and Miki are just names for two of the Parasites in this host's body. Realizing that this is one fight they cannot win, Migi and Shinichi manage to shake Gotou off for the time being.
Under Shinichi's earlier recommendation, a distraught Kuramori seeks out Hirama, an investigator looking into the Parasite situation, who convinces him to cooperate with the police. Shortly after, Kuramori escapes police custody to avenge his family's deaths by himself, shadowing Tamura.
Shinichi realizes by watching the news that the Parasites are after Kuramori. Driven by the desire to protect his own family, he calls his father and tells him to leave town. It is revealed that Shinichi has been having a recurring nightmare in which he converses with a humanoid, skeletal Migi. Elsewhere, Tamura expresses irritation at her comrades' underestimation of human nature (regarding killing Kuramori's family) and Kusano begins to view her as a threat.
The episode ends with he and two other Parasites springing an ambush on Tamura.
