Return To Normal (日常の中へ, Nichijō no naka e) is the 63rd chapter of the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.
Overview[]
After the incident at the City Hall, parasites have begun to meld with society, as some have completely changed their diet. One night Migi visits Shinichi in his dream. He then states that he'll be going to sleep for an undetermined amount of time, and that he's enjoyed their time together. One year later, Shinichi leads a normal life with Satomi, though they are being followed by the serial killer Uragami.
Summary[]
The narrator explains that parasite activity has greatly died down since the battle at City Hall, partially because of the example set and partially because parasites were becoming even more effective at hiding. Some had even started eating nothing but human food.
In the Izumi household, Migi appears in Shinichi's dreams to say farewell. When Shinichi is confused, Migi explains that he plans to sleep for decades, and be nearly just an ordinary hand. He states he had changed while being part of Gotou, and wants to focus solely on the data he'd received while in the other parasite. Migi then says that he wants Shinichi to forget about him as if he were all just a dream, which Shinichi vehemently denies.
As they bring up the deaths they've witnessed, an apparition of Shinichi's mother appears. More people appear, memories of what Shinichi had seen and gone through. Migi remarks that all of them look different to how Migi had perceived them, and that this reveals that no two people can truly understand each other due to how differently they perceive the world.
The crowd of memory then dissipates, and Migi tells Shinichi goodbye and not to worry about meeting other parasites. He then departs further into the dream.
Shinichi then awakens and yells at Migi for thinking he'd forget.
A year later, Shinichi and Satomi meet up. They discuss how school is going for Satomi and what it'll take for Shinichi to catch up. Shinichi muses on the disappearance of parasites and remembers calling Mamoru Uda and Jaw as well as how different Migi had been. He begins thinking on how the battles they had been in had only ever been for humans or himself, not the Earth, and that no species can really understand another species. He decides that it's okay if humanity is protecting other species mostly for its own benefit, and that parasites were never really that different from the rest of Earth's inhabitants.
As Shinichi and Satomi depart, Uragami lurks nearby.
