Freezing Point (氷点, lit. Hyōten) is the 8th episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率 Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu), anime series.

Overview

Back in town, Shinichi sudden change in behavior put his father and friends wary of him. The situation gets even more tense when Hideo Shimada, another parasite, is sent by Ryōko to keep an eye on him.

Summary

Reiko Tamura (formerly Ryoko Tamiya) asks fellow Parasite Hideo Shimada to pose as a transfer student in Shinichi's school. Meanwhile, Kana brushes Mitsuo off to pursue Shinichi. Mitsuo corners Shinichi again but the latter defends himself successfully. Murano brings up the fact that Shinichi has changed yet again.

Shinichi comes home to find his father developing a drinking problem and discusses his own psychological changes with Migi. The next morning, Shinichi rescues an injured dog on the road. He disposes of it in a rubbish bin after it dies in his hands, to Murano's horror. Subsequently, he gives the dog a proper burial.

At school, Shimada is detected by Migi. He claims to sustain himself on a diet similar to that of ordinary humans and says he and Tamura are looking for ways for their kind to survive without cannibalizing humans. Kana runs into Shimada, thinking she was sensing Shinichi's presence. Shinichi warns her not to rely on her ability. It is revealed that Yuko Tachikawa has a crush on Shimada.

The episode ends with Shimada killing and eating a teen girl, exposing the fact that he was lying to Shinichi and Migi.

• The title of this episode is from literary work "Freezing Point", along with all the episode titles, are from famous literary works.
• A store, Matsunoya, is seen in the background as Shinichi and Murano walk home from school. This is a nod to the popular Japanese restaurant, Yoshinoya.
• To commemorate the release of the first live action movie of the Kiseijuu manga series, this episode and Episode 9 were released as an one hour special.
• After Marathon of one episode of Parastye and Naruto Shippuden.
