Life and Oath (生命と誓い, Seimei to Chikai) Is the 23rd episode of the Parasyte -the maxim- (寄生獣 セイの格率, Kiseiju Sei no Kakuritsu), anime series.
Overview
While searching for Gotou, Shinichi accepts that he may die in this confrontation. After multiple failed attempts to kill Gotou, Shinichi is able to wound him, using a rusty pipe. Before Gotou lands a lethal strike on Shinichi, Migi is revealed to have been alive inside Gotou and relocates to Shinichi's body, saving his life. Gotou's body starts rebelling against him, and bursting apart, due to Shinichi poisoning him earlier. As Shinichi watches Gotou struggle to stay alive, he initially decides to let him live. Migi refuses to kill Gotou, regarding it as murder. Migi and Shinichi consider how parasites purging the Earth of humans might be a good thing, thinking of the negative impact humans have on the environment. Shinichi also considers how giving mercy to others is a redeemable human trait. However, on second thought, he decides to protect his family and friends and kills him.
