Some Child's Parent (人の子の親, Hito no ko no oya) is the 47th chapter of the Parasyte manga series, written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

Overview[]

Reiko and Kuramori discuss the human grieving process, while Kuramori threatens to kill Reiko's child. Reiko quickly stabs Kuramori in the back and through the chest, rescuing her son, surprising both Kuramori and herself. As Shinichi walks up to Reiko, she states that she believes humans and parasites to of the same species and that the humans need to play nice. Just then Detective Hirama and the rest of his task force surround Reiko and Shinichi.

Summary[]

Kuramori and Tamura face off, discussing the nature of parenthood and the feelings it elicits between monsters and humans. Kuramori declares that Tamura can't really comprehend human parental happiness or grief, and asks if she would even feel sad if he killed her child.

Elsewhere, Migi tells Shinichi to enter Hikari Park and internally wonders what emotion is causing the strange signal he's sensing from Tamura.

Kuramori lifts the infant as if to throw it off the balcony he stands on, hoping Tamura will feel at least a fraction of his own grief. However, she stabs him through the chest with a tentacle and catches her child with another, bringing it back to her as Kuramori begins to collapse. He tells her that he was kidding and would never kill a human child, and both of them are surprised that she actually cared for it. He then falls over the balcony's railings and into the park below.

Migi directs Shinichi towards Tamura's movements, having noticed that she killed a human but not telling Shinichi. Meanwhile, Satomi sits on a park bench and admires her surroundings.

Hirama and his men eventually enter as well, and though he feels that he doesn't have enough backup he refuses to call for more, aware that this is no longer police work. A woman then shrieks and points towards the wounded Kuramori. Hirama struggles to get information from him and is told of Tamura's current outfit and the bloodstain on her child's clothes. He asks for the name and info of Kuramori's informant, but the private detective only says that he is like Kuramori, both having lost their families. Fading away, Kuramori then calls out his wife's and daughter's names, and declares he's glad he didn't kill the baby. He then dies. Hirama declares him an honorary detective and tells him that they will avenge him.

In the park, Hirama's men spread out and look for a woman wearing white clothes and holding a child, causing innocent women and children to cry and panic. Hirama himself intends to finish Tamura here, hoping that Hirokawa is unaware.

Tamura finally meets up with Shinichi, holding the baby in her arms. He remains angered by her apparently holding it as a shield, but Migi tells him he has to calm down. She tells him that she's killed 38 humans and that the number is low for a parasite, having eaten normal food to make up for it. She then declares that humans and parasites are part of the same family, and that parasites are humanity's children. Shinichi angrily denies it. Instead of arguing with him, she simply asks him to be nice as parasites are weak and unable to survive on their own. She also warns him not to fight Gotou, who is a weak parasite experiment that can't be defeated. When Shinichi calls out the seeming contradiction, she simply laughs. She prepares to tell him something about Hirokawa, but is interrupted by Hirama and his men.

Hirama realizes that Shinichi must know something, and that the woman near him must be Reiko Tamura the parasite. He calls all his men back to him, incidentally startling Satomi into leaving.
